82.4 MW cogeneration plant at the La Rabida refinery by Cepsa
Magazine number: 135
Last November, Cepsa commissioned the second cogeneration plant at the La Rábida refinery, located in the industrial site of Nuevo Puerto de Palos de la Frontera (Huelva). The new cogeneration plant, which is incorporated to the previous one, operational since 1990, has 82.4 MW of installed power, produces electric energy and 115 t/h of steam. This new installation is the ending of the project Medium Distillates Production Capacity Increase, undertaken in this refinery, with an investment of about € 1,000 million. Specifically, the cogeneration plant, backed with a € 85 million investment, will efficiently cover the steam needs of the La Rábida and Capsa Química Palos (CQP) refineries, both installations being property of Grupo Cepsa, producing power for the national grid, increasing savings and energy efficiency, and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions.
